STEEP SITE SELECTION. A selection from our prime vineyards along the Ahr River between Dernau and Ahrweiler, all of which are extremely steep and characterized by slate. The old vines in these vineyards offer optimal conditions for Pinot Noir.
Pinot Noir has high demands on the vineyard site and demands the winemaker's extensive knowledge and craftsmanship. The labor-intensive steep slopes of the Ahr provide ideal conditions for coaxing a balanced combination of color, fruit, and Burgundy bouquet from this grape variety. Reduced yields and a long ripening period on the vine enable the typical aroma and elegant acidity and tannin structure. The slate soils of the Ahr give Pinot Noir a distinctive minerality that is unparalleled, making it truly unique.
