Il Poggione is a family-owned estate that dates to the late 1800s, located in the hilltop town of Montalcino, Italy. It was one of the first wineries to sell Brunello di Montalcino and is a founding member of the consortium. Today Leopoldo and Livia Francheschi run the estate. There estate rests on 600 hectares, with 125 hectares under vine and 70 hectares of olive trees. The wines are vinified in an underground winery built in 2004. Their Brunello di Montalcino comes from vines that are at least 20 years old and are aged for three years in French oak barrels and in bottle before its released. Their Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is harvest from the oldest vines on the estate, planted in 1964. The wine is aged for four years in French large French oak casks and in bottle before release. These wines are consistently accoladed and subsequently in demand from collectors of fine Italian wines.
