VDP.ORTSWEINE wines come from high-quality, characterful, and traditional vineyards within a single village, reflecting and expressing the local terroir. Only regional varieties are used.
Pinot Noir places high demands on the vineyard site and demands the winemaker's extensive knowledge and craftsmanship. The labor-intensive steep slopes around Ahrweiler, planted with greywacke rock—a debris sediment of dark gray to gray-green, very hard sandstone—offer ideal conditions for coaxing a balanced combination of color, fruit, and Burgundy bouquet from this grape variety. Only a long ripening period on the vine enables the typical aroma and elegant acid and tannin structure. The greywacke and slate soils of the Ahr region give Pinot Noir a distinctive minerality that is unparalleled, making it truly unique.
