Angus Hughson, Winepilot
Margaret River produces a very unique style of Australian Shiraz, or Syrah, thanks to the sea breezes that whip in off the Indian Ocean. They are wines often with plenty of depth although generally without the staying power of the great wines from out east. This is a prime example with its deep ruby colour leading to a delicious array of aromas, from violets and blackberry through to charcuterie, wood smoke and ground spices. It’s then soft, plump and fleshy, with ample fruit on the palate supported by grainy tannins. A lighter style of Syrah to enjoy sooner rather than later.
Margaret River Syrah is noteworthy because of its fragrance and attractiveness in it’s youth.
Aromas of juicy black cherries and boysenberries with a grind of black pepper. The palate possesses a fine grained texture comprising of ripe tannin which adds to the structure and depth of the wine.
