Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
The 2011 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a very primal nose with dried pineapple, beeswax, a touch of sea spray and wet stone. The palate is medium-bodied with a harmonious, viscous entry and very well-judged acidity that lends tension and poise. There is something more effortless about this 2011 compared to recent vintages, with a tang of marmalade popping up on the finish that is very elegant. Excellent.
One of the Sauternais' oldest estates, Lafaurie-Peyraguey is another of the appellation's stellar crus. Located west of the Rabaud Promis and Sigalas Rabaud estates, the vineyard is comprised of soil featuring medium gravel combined with fine alluvium, resulting in a wine that has been renowned as a rich and complex cru since 1980.
