Edward Ragg, The Wine Advocate
Chapter & Verse’s 2016 Mastery Tempranillo has a moderate to deep ruby appearance. On the nose, this shows the lighter-fruited nature of this cooler and wetter vintage. However, there is attractive Tempranillo fruit (red and black plum, red and black cherry) with nicely integrated new-oak notes of vanilla and toast (the 2016 had 18 months of maturation, with 74% of the wine seeing smaller-format oak, of which 28% was new). On the palate, the 2016 Mastery Tempranillo is full-bodied with coating, chewy tannins, lively acidity and well-integrated 14% alcohol providing the bones for a pleasant core of juicy Tempranillo fruit scented with that touch of new oak.
The name “ShiBaiPian”, A Hundred Poems, originated in the 8th century, by the work of beloved poet DuFu, “Ode to Eight Wine Immortals”.
Crafted with grapes from the best blocks in our highland vineyard, Site 16, and harvested at night to preserve their freshness, our Reserve whites are a testament to the perfection of nature and the precision of our winemaking techniques. After three rounds of hand-sorting, the grapes are pressed before going through natural low-temperature clarification and thermo-controlled fermentation, followed by aging in French oak.
