Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast
Dark spice, new leather, wild berry and eucalyptus are some of the aromas you'll find on this lovely red. Sleek and sultry, the elegant palate offers Marasca cherry, raspberry, cedar and star anise alongside lithe, fine-grained tannins.
The Rosso Feudo di Mezzo is the largest cru in the appellation and comes from a 1.5 hectare parcel. The vines range from 50-80 years old and only 5500 bottles are made. Nerello Mascalese makes up 98% of the blend with Nerello Cappuccio at 2%. It spends 16-18 months in French oak barriques and tonneaux before bottling. This wine is always the most open and ready to drink with aromas of cedar spice and red berries and silky tannins.
